We offer a number of unique and scenic tours in the beautiful Faroe Islands.Â
No worries from your side! On our Tours, everything is always included.
We are highly focused on providing a service of the highest quality, making sure that you are taken care of.
TindurTravel offers intimate sea journeys where fishing, shared work on deck, and quiet evenings aboard or in harbour become part of the experience. Life on board follows the rhythm of the sea — salt in the air, food being prepared in the galley, conversation carried by wind and tide.
Here, you are invited to slow down.
To relax. Restore. Recover.
We sail aboard historic Faroese vessels, welcoming only small groups, and always with deep respect for the ships, the sea, and the culture they come from. This is not sightseeing. It is participation in a living maritime tradition.
All voyages are operated by professional and experienced crews, certified for passenger navigation. The vessels comply fully with current maritime regulations for passenger transport and are equipped according to Faroese safety standards.
The ships are fully insured in accordance with applicable regulations. Guests are required to hold their own valid travel and personal insurance.
Safety on board is handled with the same care as the ships themselves — quietly, thoroughly, and without disturbing the experience.
Each voyage is shaped in close dialogue with our guests and may range from a single day at sea to multi-day journeys with overnight stays on board.
A day voyage offers a complete experience of sailing, fishing and life on deck — without overnight accommodation.
Extended voyages can last up to four days, with up to three nights spent in traditional single berths, much like those once used by Faroese fishermen. During these journeys, the ship becomes both transport and home, moving slowly between islands, fjords and small harbours.
All voyages are fully crewed. Weather, sea conditions and the wishes of the guests shape each journey.
Beyond sailing itself, guests are welcome to take part in everyday life on board. This may include preparing the day’s catch, learning traditional techniques, and sharing meals inspired by Faroese culinary traditions.
Evenings reflect the place where the ship lies. Some are spent ashore, discovering local hospitality and cuisine. Others unfold on deck, with simple food, conversation, and at times the presence of Faroese music and storytelling. These moments are never staged — they arise naturally from people and place.
The voyage is not only about moving through the islands, but about sharing time, skills and atmosphere along the way.
To sail like this is to pause — to relax, restore and recover in the presence of sea and horizon.
The three vessels of TindurTravel are owned by local Faroese associations. They are restored, maintained and sailed largely through voluntary work — a commitment that has kept them active long beyond their original working lives.
These ships are not replicas. They are authentic working vessels, preserved through use rather than display.
Johanna TG326, Dragin of KlaksvÃk, and Thorshavn of Tvøroyri have each carried fish, crews, goods and stories between islands and communities. Today, they continue to sail — not as museum pieces, but as living ships with a future.
When you travel aboard these vessels, you become part of an ongoing effort to sustain Faroese maritime heritage through care, responsibility and active use.
TindurTravel was founded by Hans Jacob Hermansen, who brings decades of experience from fishing and sailing in Faroese waters, combined with a strong engagement in Faroese cultural life and maritime traditions.
TindurTravel was created to make historic Faroese ships sail — not as exhibits, but as vessels with a future.
We work in close collaboration with the local associations that own the ships. By handling planning and logistics, TindurTravel allows crews and volunteers to focus on sailing, maintaining the vessels, and sharing their knowledge and stories.
Every voyage directly supports the continued life of these ships and the communities around them. Guests are not spectators, but participants in a tradition that remains active and meaningful.
Respect for Faroese culture and seafaring traditions
Small-scale, slow travel
Collaboration rather than exploitation
Authentic experiences over superficial comfort
We believe in travel that allows time to breathe — to relax, restore and recover.
Tell us about your group, your ideas and your interests. We respond personally and promptly with suggestions and possibilities — and then shape the voyage together.
Each journey is individually designed, reflecting the season, duration and experiences you wish to include.
Private charter of a vessel begins at approximately €3,000 per day (roughly USD 3,300).
This rate includes the professional crew, vessel operation, fuel, and the essential running costs required to sail these historic ships safely and responsibly.
The final investment depends on the length of the voyage and the specific arrangements requested — including meals, special experiences, and onshore arrangements. A detailed and transparent proposal is always provided prior to agreement.
